I heard from a trusted scholar out Prophet (SAW) used to always recite relatively long Surahs but not too long (~1 page).

Sheikh recites as an imam of the haram with a lot more knowledge than us maa Shaa Allah so I believe we should not comment in such a manner as it can lead to disrespect... Shukran...

Why do pppl pick on the actions of the imaams? They know more than us n if there's diff on opinions, they can do what they believe is correct. It's so hurtful when ppl pick on them. :(

Remember when the sahaba were led in prayer and the imam only recited surah ikhlas hence the sahaba complained to the prophet considering the surah was short. Therefor the prophet asked the man why he recited ikhlas and the man replied that he loved the surah. I forgot the prophets reply but he approved and was happy. Would you like the imams never to recite the short surahs? Besides the small surahs have great meanings i.e. surah asr such a small surah but look at the tafsir.

Also, its sunnah to read from Surah Bayyinnah until Surah Nas in Maghrib. And even if you don't read from there, it is sunnah to read short. Shaykh Qasim is following the sunnah mashAllah
