Mashallah Sheikh Juhany is the most improved imam ... he was always good but now he is simply fantastic... He truly is an artist at work just like Sheikh Sudais.
azaan is sounded from a studio which is on a higher platform just under the second floor off masjid al haram. you can see the studio in some videos during salah, its got reflective glass
I just realized that his tune today slightly resembled a recitation that I've heard from Sheikh Abdul Hadi al Kanakri! SubhanAllah, Sheikh Juhany's awesome...

I saw a sightly lifted position in Madina for Athan. In Makkah, is there such a place (different from the Imam's) where the Athan is sounded from?
