He did not pass away in Madeenah. He passed away in New York, he was there for medical purposes. And King Abdullah was not present, he is in Riyadh.

Janazah Took Place At The Grand Mosques After Asr Today Whilst The Actual Janazah Took Place At The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque. After Asr Today

Salam,

I read the previous comment and on news that the King ordered Janazah prayer to be prayed in both the Holy Mosques. While the body is somewhere else.

How is this done and possible?

P.S. I don't intend to to ask this question to stir up controversy or anything. Just wanted to know how and why its done since i don't know.

It's called Salaat al Ghaib, when the deceased is elsewhere and you offer the prayers for them. The basis for it is that Sayyidina Rasulullah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) performed funeral prayers in Madeenah for the King Najashi (Radiallahu Anhu) who passed away in Abyssinia.
