Salaam,

Has Sheikh Kalbani been invited for Salaatul taraweeh or is he going to be permanent in Masjidul Haram?

Is this Sheikh Adel Al Kalbani an Arab?

Most probably not Arab, but must be Saudi by citizenship and his family must have been living there for many generations. Allah 'alam.

Well his name is deffinitely Saudi-arab, and well he does look and seems to be arab.

You both gave me two different answer. I think I would agree with areej, because he does not look like Arab to me, but I would like that to be confirmed. I thought in Saudi Arabia, they don't accept outsider to be imam or khateeb or anything in term of Islamic profession? I can't imagine they employ or at least allow an outsider to lead salat in Masjid Al-Haram. Which is contradicting because I think it is in the Al-Qur'an or hadith that no arab is superior over non-arab and no non-arab is superior of arab. Because the most righteous is one who who have at-taqwa and who is near and dear to the Lord of the Worlds. It would be nice if someone could provide a translation as more information can be exploited.

He is of Omani and African descent. Allahu 'alam.

In regular masajid non Saudis can be Imaams, not khateebs. Khutbah are given by Saudi's, and that applies to UAE, and Bahrain as well I believe.

It doesn't matter where the imaams are from really. Whatever the rules are that are man made regarding the position, Allah ultimately wills who will be placed in it and who will not be. Alhamdulillah sheikh Kalbaani sure is a wonderful addition. :)

Thank areej, so basically he is from Omani, presumably born in there? And for his descendant, his ancestor are African?

Lastly, about being appointed imam or khateeb of the grand masjid, the origin of the person and race does not apply being one? It's down to Allah's will?

I know I'm asking too many questions, but I'm very keen to know this as I don't want to get this wrong.

Why would anyone say that he doesn't look like an Arab ? For one he is definitely an Arab to his name and lineage . 2. He definitely looks like an Arab according how the scholars and historians described what the original Arabs looked like .

Abu Tayyib Al Laghwhi (350 AH) said in regards to Fadl Ibn Abbas's poem,'' in his book kitaab Al Idaad page 162.
'' He means that his colour is the colour of the Arabs, and it is jet black''
يعني ان لونه الون العرب، و هو سواد
