Salaam Walaikum,

Just wanted to know, does a person have to be a citizen of Saudi Arabia to become an Imam of Masjidul Haram and lead the Salaat there. Or could they be educated elsewhere in the world and still be eligible for a position in the Masjid

Knowing the Saudis, you probably have to be:
a) an Arab
b) a Saudi
c) born, raised and educated in KSA.

Yes, they maybe some of the most blessed people on this earth, leading millions, but there is a certain arrogance about them

But Rasulullah (SAW) said no Arab is better than a non-Arab and no non- Arab is better than an Arab it is only in their deeds that they differ.

Well Sheikh Muhammad Ayub of the Haramain of Madinah was from burma. The choic belongs to Allah SWT Jalla wa 3ala. Whomever Allah chooses shall become imam in his blessed house. The King's laws have no effect on who is chosen, that belongs with Allah. However, they could make rules like you must be arab or saudi or what not. However If Allah wills for somebody to lead their, can the Saudi King do anything about it? No. If it's your desire and you bring the deeds and knowledge then allah will not let you down. but Allah only helps those who begin to change or show a willingness to chnage. And Allah knows Best.
